What
are seminars, and how do they differ from other speaking venues?
Essentially, seminars are gatherings of members of the same or
similar industry to discuss, study, and further the knowledge
and advancement of a particular field of study. You, as a speaker,
may be asked to speak at a seminar if your signature speech, and
the subject for which you are known, is the same or a tangential
subject to the purpose of the seminar.
The caution here is to be careful that you accept invitations
to speak at seminars, when and if, your acceptance furthers your
purposes. It is easy to get caught up in the excitement of being
asked to speak, when your appearance will not move you toward
your stated goals. Remember, as quoted in the “Speaking”
section of this website, if you are a professional speaker, you
speak to gain clients or raise revenue. This is essentially the
only area where I caution speakers to possibly decline. Most invitations
to speak have, at least, the opportunity to gain clients. This
is the one venue which may not afford you that opportunity.
All situations are unique, and therefore fees are discussed on
an individual basis. Contact me here
to discuss speaking at seminars in more detail.
